Paying Attention to the Tension
Paying Attention to the Tension
There’s balance and oneness in holding some of these contrasts in tension, two sides of the same coin, two wings of the same bird, Shiva and Shakti, death and rebirth.
I bring the clear light of unity to those suffering from the delusion of duality. If you can fathom my true nature, you will behold and know your true nature as well.
~ Dharmakaya Sutra 4.26
Jesus said to them, "When you make the two into one, and make the inner like the outer and the outer like the inner, and the upper like the lower, and so make the male and the female a single one so that the male won't be male nor the female female; when you make eyes in the place of an eye, a hand in the place of a hand, a foot in the place of a foot, and an image in the place of an image; then you'll enter [the kingdom]."
~ Gospel of Thomas 22
I am the light above everything.
I am everything.
Everything came forth from me, and everything reached me.
Split wood, I am there.
Lift up a rock, you will find me there.
~ Gospel of Thomas 77
I am the Lord God of all.
I am the imperishable Source of all being.
I am the One, the Manifold, the Omnipresent, the Universal.
I am the Oblation, the Sacrifice, and the Worship;
I am the Fuel and the Chant,
I am the Butter offered to the fire,
I am the Fire itself;
and I am the Act of offering.
I am the Father of the universe and its Mother;
I am the Nourisher and it’s Grandfather;
I am the Knowable and the Pure;
I am OM and I am the Sacred Scriptures.
I am the Goal, the Sustainer, the Lord, the Witness, the Home, the Shelter, the Lover, and the Origin;
I am Life and Death;
I am the Fountain and the Seed Imperishable.
And the Heat of the Sun.
I release and hold back the Rains.
I am Death and Immortality;
I am Being and Not-Being. (Both Spirit and matter are in Me.)
~ from Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 9
I am found in those who seek Me.
See Me. Consider Me.
Hear Me, you who have ears to hear.
I am the one who’s image is great.
I am the one without image at all.
I am the one hated everywhere.
I am the one lived everywhere.
I am the one who is called Life and yet you call death.
I am the one who is called Order and yet you call chaos.
I am the one you have sought.
I am the one you have found.
I am She without festivals
and I am She with numerous festivals.
I am the eternal and the transient.
I am the one, and the many.
